Community Action is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson's Economic Opportunity and Community Partnership Act. Over 1,000 Community Action Agencies are in operation across the country.
Community Action is led by Executive Director Jane Sanders, and is governed by a twenty-four member Board of Directors. Eight Board Members are elected by residents living with lower incomes in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. These seats give people with lower incomes a direct voice in shaping Community Action's policies and programs. The other sixteen Board members represent public officials and organizations from the private sector.
