Center-Based Child Care: Parent-Child Development Center provides state-subsidized full-day, full year childcare services to eligible families in center-based preschool classrooms and in licensed family child care homes in both Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Fees are based on a state-regulated sliding scale.
Center for Self-Reliance Food Pantry is a drop-in food pantry where people with low incomes can receive food and farmers market coupons to bring home. Each household can visit the center, located in Greenfield, once per month. There is also a satellite pantry, the West County Emergency Food Pantry, located in Shelburne Falls.
Child Care Outlook is a Child Care Resource and Referral program that helps parents choose child care that works best for their needs, finds appropriate childcare providers, provides workshops for parents on a variety of early childhood topics, and assists parents in finding subsidies that help pay for childcare. This program also provides professional development for childcare providers.
CommonCents is an Individual Development Account (IDA) Program that matches savings and provides financial education and support to help people buy a home, start a business, or go to college.
Community Crisis Response Team serves people affected by crime-related violence and trauma. Among other things, they offer meeting facilitation for people affected by crisis to talk about their experiences, coping strategies, and community safety; one-on-one crisis intervention; and referrals to counseling, emergency assistance, and support groups.
Early Head Start is a program of Parent-Child Development Center (PCDC) that offers weekly home visiting in Franklin County for pregnant women and families with children birth through age three. PCDC also offers Early Head Start classrooms in Greenfield and Amherst.
Electric Efficiency Program is part of our Energy Assistance department, and helps people who are eligible to receive fuel assistance reduce their electricity usage. Community Action staff provide in-home auditing, training, and light bulb and appliance replacements.
Energy Assistance is a group of programs that help people with low income cover the cost of their winter heating bills. Income-eligible people can receive Fuel Assistance, and may also qualify for participation in our Electric Efficiency Program, Weatherization Program, and Heating System Program.
Energy Bucks is the name of an advertisment campaign. The real programs it refers to are run through our Energy Assistance department (see Energy Assistance above), and include Fuel Assistance and Weatherization services.
Family Child Care: Home-based child care programming throughout Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Parent-Child Development Center provides training, support, and oversight to licensed providers. These childcare professionals provide year-round services for children from 6 weeks through school age.
Family Learning Center provides literacy services for families with children.
Family Network offers free play groups, fun activities and resources for parents and their children 0-3 years old in Franklin County.
Financial Education Classes are offered periodically throughout the year, and cover a range of topics including managing a budget, financial planning, and credit repair.
First Call for Help assists people in finding and accessing resources such as food, public benefits, social services, counseling, transportation, emergency assistance, and housing.
Fuel Assistance Program helps people with the cost of their winter heating bills. Eligible homeowners and renters can get help paying part of their heating bill or part of their monthly rent, if heat is included in rent. Discounts on telephone and utility bills may also be available.
Head Start is a program of Parent-Child Development Center (PCDC) that provides comprehensive services for children ages three - five in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Services include full and school-year classroom settings, home visiting, and education and care in licensed family child care homes. Additional services include support to families in areas of nutrition, advocacy, parent involvement, health, disabilities, and mental health.
Healthy Connections provides free help to people who need to find health insurance in the North Quabbin area.
Healthy Families is a home visiting program for first time pregnant or parenting youth under the age of 21. This program offers support, educational groups and case management to parents.
Heating System Program is part of our Energy Assistance department, and can help with winter emergency heating services for people who are eligible to receive Fuel Assistance. Typical work includes repairs, replacements, asbestos removal, cleanings and tune-ups.
Housing Services helps people to keep or find safe, affordable housing. Services also include information on tenant and landlord rights, budget counseling, case management, outreach, and mediation.
The Mediation & Training Collaborative provides mediation and facilitation services and training in communication and conflict resolution. Mediation services include divorce, family, consumer, neighbor, elder, workplace and public dispute mediation, and are available regardless of your income or where you live.
Parent-Child Development Center (PCDC) offers a menu of comprehensive Head Start and childcare services for children birth through five years of age and their families in Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Programs include full-year and school-year classrooms, home visiting, and early education and care in monitored family child care homes. PCDC staff provide support to families in areas of education, nutrition, advocacy, parent involvement, health, disabilities, and mental health.
Parent-Child Home Program encourages reading and educational play through home visiting for families with children 2-4 years old in Greenfield, Turners Falls, and Orange.
SCORE Peer Mediation is a school-based mediation program for youth in which youth are trained in conflict resolution and nonviolent communication so that they can facilitate mediation among their peers.
Tax Assistance Program is a free service in which IRS certified volunteers prepare Federal and State tax returns for local residents with low to moderate income.
Weatherization Program is a part of our Energy Assistance department, and can provide free energy improvements in homes and apartments including air sealing, insulation for the attic, walls, or basement, and window and door repairs. Participants must be eligible to receive Fuel Assistance.
WIC: Women, Infants & Children gives checks to buy food, as well as information about good nutrition and other ways to keep families healthy and strong. This program also provides breastfeeding support and education.
Youth Programs provides free prevention, enrichment, and peer leadership programs to youth and young adults (ages 6 to 21). Activities are offered in schools and outreach sites throughout our service area. Transportation is available for most activities.
