Community Action continually works to promote economic justice and improve the quality of life for our neighbors with lower incomes.
Community Action Plan, 2012-2014
Every three years, Community Action completes a comprehensive community needs assessment and internal evaluation, basing our three-year agency plan on the information we uncover. The resulting Community Action Plan provides a touch point for us as we move Community Action forward.
Our most recent community needs assessment was completed in 2011 and incorporates the input of hundreds of community members with low incomes, staff, and partner agencies. It is the only document of its kind, the only local source of information about what it’s like to live in our region and struggle to get by.
The economic forecast for our low-income constituents continues to be bleak. The Great Recession is far from over, as the gap between rich and poor widens, unemployment rates rise, and prices increase. The financial future for Community Action Agencies nationwide is also uncertain. We are a strong and resilient organization, and we will survive, however, until national priorities change, the coming years will bring continued instability, with a high probability of funding cuts and program contractions.
We thank the hundreds of survey participants, our staff, Board, community collaborators, and especially the Strategic Planning Committee for their commitment and goodwill throughout the community needs assessment and strategic planning process. We were proud to hear over and over again from our staff how good they feel about working here. We were pleased to hear from our participants that we’ve made a real difference in their lives. We were challenged to think about how we can do even better, and we have emerged an even stronger organization as a result.
