The Center for Self-Reliance Food Pantries |

It's a universal belief that no one should go to bed hungry, yet many people in our own backyard do not have the resources to buy enough food for their families. The Center for Self-Reliance exists to address this serious situation. Its storefront pantry not only offers food to families, but also offers information and referrals to other services and programs, regardless of income or circumstance.
More importantly, the Center for Self-Reliance treats people with dignity and respect, bringing hope to those who are hungry. Each person who visits our pantry is given time to choose what they would like from a variety of non-perishable foods and fresh fruits and vegetables, depending on availability.
As the economy continues to worsen, more and more people have come to us for help. Enrolled individuals and families are able to receive food once per month, lessening the potential effects of hunger and poor nutrition. The Center also hosts fresh food cooking demonstrations and nutrition workshops so that participants can learn new ways to combine healthy and nutritious food on a limited budget. During the summer months we offer Greenfield Farmers Market Coupons to low-income families to help purchase fresh locally grown produce and vegetables with the generous support of the Free Harvest Supper Committee.
The Center for Self-Reliance's main site is in Greenfield. The West County Food Pantry, located in Shelburne Falls, provides many of the same services on a monthly basis.
Volunteers play an important role in our daily operations, and all the fine work at the food pantry would not be possible without contributions from local churches and organizations. Donations from local businesses, schools, and farmers make the difference in the center's ability to address the very real and serious problem of food insecurity in our region. We are grateful for their support.
