No one should have to choose between paying for heat or other basics, like feeding their family. Unfortunately, with the high cost of energy, many people do make that choice every winter. Community Action's Energy Programs are committed to helping community members with low income in Franklin and Hampshire Counties cover their energy costs. Our programs are aimed at reducing energy consumption, improving heating systems, and helping pay a portion of fuel and utility bills.
Our largest program, Fuel Assistance, helps households with low income by paying a portion of their home heating costs. The program is available to both homeowners and renters, and covers the primary source of heat. Program eligibility and payment amounts are determined by family size and gross annual household income. Payments are not intended to cover the entire annual cost of heating the home, but can alleviate some financial burden.
When households receive Fuel Assistance, they are also automatically eligible for up to a 35% discount on their electric bill, and up to $13.00 off on monthly phone bills.
There are other important services available if you are eligible for Fuel Assistance:
Heating System Program
Weatherization
