2010 Training Participant
The Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT) provides training for people interested in volunteering as part of the Response Team. Volunteers are deployed in the aftermath of crime-related trauma to provide support to those impacted by the event. Team members provide individual or group crisis debriefings that allow people to talk about their experience, learn common reactions to stress and trauma, tips for selfcare and support in planning for community healing.
At the training, volunteers learn some of the most up-to-date information on the neuroscience of trauma, the human stress response, and how trauma is stored in the brain and body. They receive information on the pathways to recovery which include traditional and Complementary Therapies. They also learn skills used to support people after trauma including empathic listening, counseling skills, and models of group support.
All those interested in volunteering are asked to fill out an application and be interviewed prior to being trained.
