Many thanks to our VITA Free Tax Assistance volunteers who helped us file more than 400 tax returns for the 2020 tax filing season, bringing over a $1 Million dollars back into our communities in refunds and credits!
Community Action Pioneer Valley is looking for volunteers to prepare tax returns for our remote free tax preparation and sites in Northampton and Greenfield. This IRS, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps people with low-to-moderate incomes, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and those who speak limited English. Last year, our VITA volunteers prepared over a million dollars of federal tax returns for qualified taxpayers at no cost.
Volunteers serve an average of one to two 3-hour evening shifts per week from late January through the tax filing deadline in April. Training is provided online during the month of January. Online certification and CORI are required at the completion of the training.
Anyone interested in learning more about this volunteer experience can reach out to Shannon Martineau at firstname.lastname@example.org or 376-1179.
VITA FREE TAX ASSISTANCE
Our VITA Free Tax-Assistance Program helps taxpayers with lower incomes maximize their tax refund or reduce their taxes due. Prepared by IRS-certified volunteers, taxes are filed electronically, allowing most taxpayers expecting refunds to receive their money within 5 to 10 days of filing. Volunteers are trained to look for specific eligibility requirements in order to help participants take advantage of the Earned Income Credit, the Child Tax Credit, and more -- credits that can garner significant refunds for working families and individuals. Services are offered January through April.
This program is available for residents of Franklin County, Hampshire County and the North Quabbin towns of Athol, Petersham, Royalston, and Phillipston. If you are outside of our service area, click here to find a location near you.
