YOUTH PROGRAMS

Due to concern around the COVID-19 virus and directives from the State of Massachusetts, Community Action Youth Programs has suspended in-person group programming. All individual services are being provided remotely, as our staff is working off-site at this time.

Introduction to Youth Programs: Curious about what Youth Programs provides and/or how they can  support youth? Come and  have an introductory meeting to find out  the abundance of opportunities Youth Programs has to offer!

1:1 Support: Struggling with your transition to independence? Need help navigating school or career goals? Get help looking for jobs, exploring career options, setting future goals, applying for college, accessing housing, mental health or other common resources –the list is endless! Call for an appointment today!

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

ShoutOut!

School Year Schedule: 

Greenfield- Wednesdays 3:30-6:30pm @ Youth Programs, 154 Federal St.

Northampton- Mondays 2:10-4pm @ Northampton High School

Open to all Franklin County youth ages 14-21.  Group held in Greenfield for Franklin County youth and in Northampton for Hampshire  County youth.

Transportation home may be provided to Greenfield & Turners Falls for Franklin County youth and Florence & Northampton for Hampshire County youth. Please inquire if transportation is needed.

 

ShoutOut! is an inclusive and energetic after school program, empowering youth as they take leadership roles in their schools and community.  Over the course of the year, we will be planning and implementing a youth-led project to make a positive impact on our communities.  There are NO eligibility requirements for this program, priority is given to families with lower incomes.  

Food is provided at each meeting, and youth leaders involved in the project will receive a stipend.

GenerationQ

Open to youth ages 14-21.

 

Greenfield Tuesday 4-7pm & Northampton Wednesday 4-7pm, plus monthly joint special events

 

Transportation provided to Greenfield & Turners Falls (Greenfield Group) and within Northampton/Florence (Northampton Group).

 

GenerationQ is a confidential educational and social/support group for lesbian,gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth and straight allies. This peer-led group provides an opportunity for youth to make new friends, find support and get educated on LGBTQIA+ topics.  GenQ provides additional education and support to trans and gender non-conforming youth during GenerationQ meetings. GenerationQ participants experience a safe and supportive space while becoming leaders in their community. Stipends are available for Peer Leaders.

GenerationQJr.  GenQ Peer Leaders host a night for LGBTQIA+ middle school aged youth every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 3:30-5 in Greenfield and every second Wednesday of the month from 3:30-5 in Northampton. Food is provided. 

 

In addition to weekly group meetings, GenerationQ peer leaders and participants plan community events throughout the year, including the Kiss N Tell Ball, a LGBTQIA+ formal dance, and Trans Day Of Remembrance Vigil.  GenerationQ participants have also presented at a number of area conferences and spoken to students at local schools about LGBTQIA+ related issues.

Stand Up

Weekly social and support group for youth of color ages 14-21.  Come together and represent your strength and resiliency despite living in a racist society.  Show up anytime between 3pm and 5pm on Mondays @ 90 Federal Street, Greenfield. Group ends at 5pm. Dinner is provided.  There are no eligibility requirements.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Youth Program

Northampton Summer YouthWorks

Enrolling youth ages 14-21 in the city of Northampton

 

Eligible youth have the opportunity to participate in paid Work Readiness training and work based learning opportunities, gaining experience, job skills and access to growing career paths in the area.

LEAD Program

The LEAD(Leadership, Employment, and Advocacy Development)  program provides employment-related services through a closed referral process in partnership with Commonwealth Corporation.  LEAD programs offer comprehensive employability services including career readiness training and a subsidized employment experience.  Youth are prepared to enter into the workforce through career readiness services through participation in subsidized work-based learning opportunities that allow participants to apply skills in work settings.

Enrollment for all of our groups and programs happens on a rolling basis.  Most have spaces open and opportunities to get involved right now!  If a current session is full, we are happy to put you on our wait list for the next open session.*

 

Please be sure to fill out our Enrollment Form.  Completed copies of these two forms are needed to finalize your enrollment with Community Action Youth Programs. You may print them and bring them in, or ask one of the staff members for a copy at your first meeting.

 

*YouthWorks, LEAD and WIOA have more intensive application processes, beginning with an informational interview to learn more about the program and decide if it is a good fit.  To learn more, call 413-774-7028 x796.
