Food Pantries

Welcome to the Center for Self Reliance Food Pantries! As of November 1, we are seeing big increases in people needing food and people wanting to help keep their neighbors fed. You are in the right place!

Center for Self Reliance

The Center for Self Reliance food pantry lets shoppers pick their own produce, groceries, and frozen meat.

What We Do:

The food pantries have local produce, nutritious, and shelf stable food. We can refer shoppers to other services offered by Community Action Pioneer Valley.

Who Can Get Food?

Food is available for anyone who is income eligible, has a completed application on file, and lives in our service area.

Our service area is any town in Franklin County and Athol.

Where Do I Go?

You can find the location and hours of both food pantries on this page. You can call 413-773-5029 if you have questions about where to go.

I've Never Gotten Food Before. What do I Do?

Fill out this form. You can do this at home, or we can help you fill it out at the pantry.

The best way to sign up for food is by visiting either pantry. The application process will take about 10 minutes. No identification or income verification is needed. We have applications in English, Spanish, and Russian. If you are eligible, you can shop for food the same day.

How Often Can I Visit The Center for Self Reliance?

Right now, you can visit the pantry two times per month.

As of November 1, 2025, we are seeing a big increase in the number of people who need help. To serve everyone, we have changed the number of times you can visit. We will keep this webpage updated with the most accurate and up-to-date information.

How Much Food Will I Get?

The amount of food you get depends on your household size. Every household gets shelf-stable goods, fresh produce, proteins and dairy twice a month.

I Can't Get to The Food Pantry.

If you live more than half a mile from the Center for Self Reliance, we may be able to deliver food to you. Please visit the Center for Self Reliance to fill out an application before your deliveries begin.

We can deliver to Greenfield, Montague, Turners Falls, Shelburne and Buckland.

Deliveries happen twice a month for eligible households.

As of November 1, 2025, we are seeing a big increase in the number of people who need help. We are currently maxed out on the number of deliveries we can do each week. We will update this website as soon as that changes

Can You Help Me With SNAP (Food Stamps) or WIC?

Yes! You can ask for help with SNAP or WIC at either of our pantries, or click on the links to the right under “You May Also Qualify for” for more information about help with these programs.

Can I Volunteer at the Center for Self Reliance?

We are so excited that you want to help! The first step to becoming a volunteer is filling out this questionnaire.
